CKRC - Round 9
Angus has always been quick at Circuit Mark Webber in Canberra, unfortunately, he just hasn't had a kart under him that was fast enough in the past to secure an overall win.
So, this weekend was all about redemption. It was about making sure Angus had the tools to get the job done. Data from previous rounds helped us get the chassis setup perfect for the conditions, the engine tuned up to deliver maximum power, and the tyre pressures in the correct window.
Angus more than played his part, he was absolutely flying. The only driver in the field that could consistently run in the low 50's all day long. Not only was he fast out there, but he also raced smart.
The cumulative points system for all 4 races meant that he didn't have to win every race, he just needed to cover off the drivers closest to him on points.
A solid win in Race 1 put the other drivers on the back foot early, and having to chase. Unfortunately, Angus was caught up in collision between two other drivers early in Heat 2 and could only recover to 5th. Another win in Race 3 saw Angus then starting from pole position in the Final with a 2-point lead. This meant that he only needed to finish 2rd in the final to secure the overall win.
Angus was off the front with another driver in the final, exchanging positions throughout. He was overtaken on the last lap and finished second, however, he knew that he didn't have to defend the overtake too hard, as a 2nd place finish would secure him the overall.
A 10 second penalty was applied to the race winner for a nose cone drop-down that occurred during the race, which promoted Angus as the winner of the Final.
Not a bad day at the track with 3 Race Wins, 3 fastest Laps, and the Overall Win.
Angus really wanted a race win Canberra and he went out there and did it!
