VIC State Titles
Not our usual race report post event … sadly we experienced a disappointing weekend on many levels. Unfortunately, Angus was an innocent victim this weekend, along with many others. Angus' Kart is completely written off with little chance to salvage any components from it, other than the engine itself.
Thankfully it took the full brunt of the accident and protected Angus from any serious injuries.
Angus was running in 13th position out of the 40 strong field during the Pre-Final, and moving forward nicely, only for an accident to occur directly in front of him, that left those directly behind the incident with nowhere to go. Several drivers behind Angus didn’t have time to avoid the accident, couldn’t react in time and drove straight into the back of him at full throttle.
Scary to watch from the sidelines.
Saturday ended with Angus taken by ambulance to Albury Base Hospital with mild concussion, neck pain, deep bruising to his thigh, a muscle tear and being monitored for internal haemorrhaging (as a precaution). Luckily, he is ok and has the all clear. Ready to get back out there again!
We lost count of how many incidents there were and how many Karts were damaged or written off over the weekend, with drivers receiving only minor penalties for poor driving given the nature of the incidents. We have never seen so many DNF's at a single event.
An event that we felt could have been run a lot better with a lot more effective and efficient support at the track. Somehow, we feel we won’t be the only ones making an official complaint regarding the basic lack of driver safety precautions and medical response times from this event.
A little rest and a note from the ER to allow Angus a day or two off school to recover (which he was happy about) and Angus will be good as gold again.
Time to look forward and get Angus back out doing what he loves most! Stay tuned for an update.
