AKC - Round 1

A challenging weekend at the first AKC Round over the weekend. A huge field of 70 karts all aiming to qualify for the top 42 final on Sunday. Unfortunately, a few driving errors and a Heat DNF meant that we didn’t secure enough points to qualify for the final.

We were happy with the Kart setup and had mid field pace during practice, but a messy qualifying session cost me 3 tenths and put me down in 50th position, instead of in the 30’s where we probably should have been.

Although we were able to move forward a few places, it was tough being bottled up near the back of the field. Got tagged from behind in Heat 3 which put me in the gravel and out of the race. That DNF pretty much ended any chance I had to qualify for the final.

The kart had to be straightened on the jig and rebuilt a few times over the weekend which is never fun for anyone, and I really want to thank everyone who worked hard to keep me out there on track this weekend.

A tough weekend, plenty of lessons learnt, and a clear understanding of what is needed to run toward the front at this level.

Head down and we keep working hard to move forward.
